This is Helper To Hero, a comic about Kirby Super Star Ultra.
This comic gets updated whenever I want.

Hello. May I remind you that I'm still on holidays, this is just a comic timed for Christmas.

Harkening back to the days of the Mystery Busters.

Also this is a joke, so don't take it seriously.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Santa doesn't exist! Bring on the tournament!

Neon-J, March 11th, 2010, 11:56 am

It appears you prefer the gag comics, and so do we. Let's just end this tourney fast (or get a few gag-related fillers in. The Birdy+Hammer=Monkey filler was good.)

King Walrus (Guest), May 28th, 2010, 5:10 pm

Your time is up! (you didn't update) (King Walrus puts this Webcomic under his Webcomic guillotine, and pulls the cord, officialy killing it and declaring it DEAD!)

Baljira The Hedgehog, May 30th, 2010, 5:49 pm

I knew it! I realized that a long time ago! (Before you did)

Direct from Shade: Hello Nekotive,

Thank you for your concern about Helper to Hero. However, please understand that your message is the first time I've been reminded about that comic -- no, the entirety of my past involvement in Smackjeeves -- in a very long time. I do not browse or lurk on this website. I have only received this private message because I apparently set an email notification to my personal email address for if I ever received a PM on this site. Incidentally, this is the first email notification I have received about this site in several years. This also means you are the first user to directly contact me about H2H, so congratulations; you have put in more effort than most, which I appreciate.

Making sprite comics was a hobby of mine during my early high school years. I am in university now. Simply put, I have grown out of most hobbies or interests that I enjoyed during this time, sprite comics being one of them.

I admit, it was unprofessional of me to abandon H2H like I did. If I was going to stop making sprite comics, I should have at least concluded the final round of the tournament before stopping. If it's any interest to you, I recall Simirror receiving the most amount of votes, so he should have won. Of course, Birdon was my personal favourite helper, so it's possible my younger self would have been selfish and sneaky and made Birdon win anyway. Maintaining the tournament was tedious, especially when BeamKirby42 stopped contributing, so I was forced to do his share of the work. To be honest I should have declined his request to be a co-author. Nothing personal of course, but I imagine H2H would have ran more smoothly as a personal project; it was him who introduced the tournament that I grew tired of, after all.

And if I still had interest in making sprite comics, what would I have done with it after the tournament? Return to the gag-a-day format, I guess. But there's only so much content you can produce from such a format while basing your comic on a single game. Kirby Super Star Ultra was released in 2008; 6 years ago. Furthermore, I have not played KSSU in a long time. I literally could not think of any ideas for a simple gag-a-day comic page for H2H now if I returned to it now. I have not played many newer Kirby games, either; I played Kirby's Epic Yarn and Kirby's Return to Dreamland. I guess I could have made some jokes about those games, or moved the focus of the comic onto Return to Dreamland since the 4 playable characters in that, Kirby, Metaknight, Dedede and Bandana Waddle Dee have usable sprites from KSSU. Of course, that would have been limited since I would have still only had access to KSSU graphics.

Another reason I abandoned Smackjeeves was because I grew interested in another community: Cutstuff. Have you ever heard of the fangame Mega Man 8-Bit Deathmatch? Essentially, MM8BDM is a Mega Man FPS based on the Doom engine. It recreates robot masters, stages and weapons in a deathmatch format. As of now it features content from Mega Man 1-8, Mega Man & Bass and Mega Man: The Wily Wars. Advertising aside, I started playing this game extensively and became very involved in its community. After 3+ years of involvement in Cutstuff I have contributed several stages to the core game plus helped develop various external expansions and projects. If you’re interested in what happened to me, Shade Guy, perhaps it’s worth researching that community. Though I suppose you’re more concerned about, well, what happened to H2H.

I apologise for disappearing from Smackjeeves. For a while I avoided returning to make one last post because I did not wish to see how my readers had reacted. Now, I have progressed too much as a person to bother returning to a website I browsed in early high school. I don’t know the extent of your personal involvement on Smackjeeves. Perhaps a lot of this reply means nothing to you. Do what you want with this information; if you’d like, you can share it with anyone else curious as to what happened to H2H. I will not bother browsing the comic to look at comments. Feel free to reply via PM though; as stated before, I am apparently notified on my personal email address if I receive any.

derp (Guest), February 11th, 2015, 8:58 pm

a request When are you going to make or post another is already 2015

TheJGamer, November 29th, 2016, 6:21 pm

I don't know if anyone if going to see this but this was the first comic I have ever read on Smackjeeves.

Thank you, ShadeGuy and BeamKirby42.
